Bachelor’s Program

1.Finance Program Profile

The Finance department in National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) is the first Finance Program of university in Taiwan, founded in 1986. The Finance program in NSYSU has a long history and a good reputation both in higher education institutes and industry in Taiwan and was accredited by AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) in 2010. The Finance program offers many theoretical and practical courses in finance, accounting, and economics areas, which are able to make students have capacities to cope with various finance and economic problems in the real world. Graduates of the Finance program are expected to have a solid understanding of financial management, economic theory, financial markets, investment, options and futures, intermediate accounting and more.

 

2.Finance Program Curriculum Plan

 

Three categories of courses are provided: general education courses, required courses, and selective courses. To graduate from the school, students are required to pass all general education compulsory courses and major required courses. In addition, they must obtain a total of 63 credits in the general education courses and required courses as well as a total of 77 or more in the elective courses. There are several modules of selected courses in the Finance program as follows:

3.Skills Acquisition

Students have to complete courses on managerial knowledge and analytic skills in the major areas of finance, accounting, and economics in their first and second years. Students can then choose module courses based on their interests and abilities, thus enabling them to start making plans for their careers. Overall, the aim is that the following objectives should be achieved:

  1. Enhance students’ professional abilities by integrating finance-related knowledge based on both theories and practices.
  2. Highlight the importance of professional ethics, and encourage students to have a sense of integrity.
  3. Teach the skills needed for successful communication and teamwork, as well providing a broad international vision.
  4. Apply financial theories to practical cases in order to address of range of business and financial problems.
  5. Help students to start their professional careers.

4.Program Delivery

As stated in the program strategies and goals, Finance aims to equip students with strong financial management ability, a capability of resolving problems, an ability to collaborate within a team, and broader global perspectives. At the same time, the Finance program also teaches a sense of ethics and social responsibility. Overall, the purpose of various academic activities in the Finance program is to fulfil above goals.

5. Education Methods:

Undergraduate program consists of the following education methods:

(1) Courses are given Regular lectures and are instructed by professional academic staff, and each academic staff member must provide course instruction at the beginning of semester.

(2) Case studies. For many courses, students are required to do case studies individually or in a team to pass the final assessment.

(3) Social activities. Our program encourages students to complete an internship of a certain duration and to obtain social-practice credits before graduation.

(4) Contests. Our program encourages students to participate in both academic and social competitions.

(5) Academic research. Undergraduate students may be accepted into research teams to gain professional research training from academic staff and postgraduate students.

(6) Individual paper report or group paper report. Undergraduate students may be required to submit course report by individual paper or group.

(7) Individual paper presentation or group paper presentation. Undergraduate students may need to give oral presentation by individual or group.
