In-Service Master’s Program

The Part-time master’s program is a two-year program designed for working mid-career professionals. Courses are offered in the evenings and taught in Chinese. With the transformation of a national financial system under the wave of globalization, companies are thirsty for high-level financial management talents. Under this condition, the program emphasizes the application of business practice and to cultivate a full range of financial and management expertise to enhance the competitiveness of students in employment and practice. Students receive a Master of Finance and gain a solid foundation in the theory and practice of financial markets, financial research methodology, financial statement analysis, the theory and practice of investment and financial management.

The curriculum for the Part-time master’s program is sequential and tailored to the needs of mid-career professionals. Required courses will include the following courses:

 

  • CURRENT FINANCIAL PROBLEMS ANALYSIS.

This course will invite lectures by leaders, experts, and scholars to increase the knowledge of the analysis of current critical financial issues. Topics will change from year-to-year depending on instructor and current events.

 

  • FINANCIAL STATEMENT ANALYSIS

This course emphasizes useful business analysis and decision making by analysts, investors, managers, and other stakeholders of the company. It continues to set the standard in showing students the keys to practical financial statement analysis. The objective of this course during the course is not restricted to case studies, however. Students can also benefit from the insights and analytic techniques during the class discussions. Some courses this course provide students to have a whole and deep understanding of an evolving modern financial system and can forecast the future of this system.

 

  • FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT THEORIES AND PRACTICES

This course aims to help students understand evidence-based financial theories. The topics include financial principles, time value of money, capital budgeting, random variables, returns, risk and portfolio theory, CAPM, APT, Fama-French 3-factor model, market efficiency, behavioral finance, leverage and capital structure, dividend policy, capital raising, derivative pricing, corporate restructuring, foreign exchange markets, and others.

 

  • FINANCIAL MARKETS THEORY AND PRACTICE

This course focuses on two themes: (1) the transformation of a national financial system under the wave of globalization, and (2) the causes, impacts, and policy implications of the 2008-2009 global financial storms. Through the discussion of two themes, this course hopes that students have a whole and deep understanding of an evolving modern financial system, and can forecast the future of this system.

 

  • THE THEORY AND PRACTICE OF INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT

In this course, students will study the theory and practice of investment management in domestic and global (mainly US, Taiwan, and China) financial markets. The course comprehensively describes conceptual paradigms and their extensive applications in practice.

 

  •  METHODOLOGY FOR FINANCE

This course starts with a quick review of an introduction to quantitative analysis, with a particular focus on the critical thinking skills necessary to evaluate the impact of financial events on financial markets and think about how to generate more credible evidence. Besides, this course requires an understanding of econometric software and computing skills. The recommended statistical software is R. Students must be able to import data into R and learn the basics of the R program

 

  •  MASTER THESIS(一)&(二)

To develop attitudes and abilities for completing research independently and finishing paper writing, students discuss papers with their professors in these two courses.

Selected courses will cover the following areas: investment and options, financial management, economics, corporate financial planning and governance, econometrics, and financial accounting. To graduate from the school, students are required to obtain a total of 44 credits or more in the courses. To develop student attitudes and abilities for completing research independently, students must complete the writing of a  thesis.
