Regular Master’s Program
The Master of Science in Finance (MSF) at NSYSU has earned a lot of reputation in the world. Based on the ranking of Eduniversal in 2018, the MSF program was ranked 3rd in Taiwan and 23th in Far East Asia. MSF program is also a highly selective program in Taiwan. The program at NSYSU enrolls only 18 students from more than 800 applicants each year. Five main learnings goals are set up to develop managerial talents of MSF students: (1) Students will not only understand business ethics, social responsibility, and academic integrity, but also apply ethical issues in financial practice. (2) Students will communicate effectively and perform well in financial topics. (3) Students will be equipped with problem-solving capabilities through analysis and evaluation in financial management. (4) Student will become competent in finance through applying theories and professional knowledge.(5) Students will keep an open mind when facing different cultures and know how local/global issues affect financial issues.
In addition to traditional face-to-face lecture, the MSF program develops distance-learning courses due to the impact of COVID-19. In some classes, students study cases from Harvard Business School and Ivy Business School. As for the teaching content, the MSF program combines the theory and practice of financial management, economics, and econometrics. Students are encouraged to use TEJ, CRSP, DataStream, and COMPUSTAT database for empirical analysis. MSF program students are also required to develop their ability to cope with real financial problems via using several software, such as R, SAS, SPSS, and Python.
The MSF program also hosts an international conference (SFM conference) each year and provides several courses/lectures related to the Fin-tech to align with the current trend. The program also encourages students to build interdisciplinary knowledge and analyze empirical financial problems from different perspectives, such as social network analysis, marketing, operational management, and supply chain management. Graduates of the MSF program are expected to have solid understanding of corporate finance, corporate governance, fin-tech, capital market, econometrics, economic theory, and ethical issues related to corporate social responsibility.
